Free of parabens & silicones, the wide appeal of this cleanser is that its pH level is approximately 5.5. However, it is not alcohol or sulfate-free, and is liable to trigger those with fungal acne (malassezia) issues. It also has badger oil in it, so proceed with caution if you are vegan and/or sceptical of animal byproducts being used in your skincare routine.

I bought this after seeing how many people cite this as their holy grail. I'm glad it worked for them, because from what I can see, their skin looks great! Clear + glass-like. Unfortunately, the inclusion of SLS in this product resulted in me contracting a bad case of contact dermatitis on my entire forehead, and it wasn't until I was halfway through the bottle that I realised why my skin had been looking so rough and feeling SO itchy. For reference, I have sensitive/combination skin.

As a last resort, I took it out of my routine one night based on product elimination & started using a new sulfate-free cleanser. I haven't had an issue with my forehead area since. I'm a little annoyed with my own stubbornness, because I figured since this is considered as such a gentle cleanser by many (including the official adverts), that it couldn't have been the cause behind my issue. Had I stopped using it sooner, I could have avoided 2-3 weeks of extreme discomfort.

The cleanser comes in a cute pastel blue cap + white body combo bottle. It features a flip-top cap that reveals a small opening with a blocker to assist the user with dispense control. The expiration date is featured on the back of the bottle. The only downfall regarding the presentation is that you cannot see how much powder you have left, unless you plan on twisting the entire blue spout open, risking product waste. Maybe the manufacturers could make the body of the packaging transparent for that purpose.

A little goes a long way with this product. It comes in powder form, making it versatile for those who are interested in a more solid physical scrub, or for those who want a soft, foamy cleanse. The tiny granules lather up to form a nice creamy texture with just a small amount of water to dampen the powder. It removes makeup well & my skin did look and feel clean after, but it left me feeling very stripped & dry - to the point where I couldn't wait to apply my essences & moisturisers. The fragrance in this is also quite strong, reminiscent of laundry detergent.

My experience with this product has just proven to me that while a product may work for the masses, it doesn't mean it will work for you. If you are vulnerable to reactions from SLS, steer clear - or at least use with diligence to save yourself from a horrible reaction. With that said, this product does have a cult-following and is loved by a lot of people, so it's worth a shot if you've never had any issues with SLS, alcohol denat, or fragrances - or if you simply feel like taking a risk despite that.
